Giselle Beiguelman
The URL below is about an artist Giselle Beiguelman who uses electronic billboards as form of art, poetry and mass communication. He really combines many media in a fresh way …to create new meaning? A form of electronic collage for the 21st century…out on the streets rather than in the galleries?www.medienkunstnetz.de/works/poetrica/images/7/

New York Billboards
A subsequent video posting…this time it goes around a corner!

Pluses
>The technology seems to offer new ways of manipulating movement, intensity of colour or moving images over time (video)
> Changes the whole environment as the video clip shows
Minuses
lack of time for contemplation
sophistication of tones, colours, lines…etc
Bill Viola is an artist who has used video on large scale but in gallery environment. He has unusually gone for very subtle effects such as slow motion shoots say of a man under water (Tate Modern). He is someone who has used the digital media in very simple yet very imaginative way.
Questions
1 – Are there any other fine-art based artist using this media?
2 – What are their intentions?
3 – What are the media’s strengths and weaknesses?
I wonder if the skyscrapers of New York could be considered new canvases of the 21st Century.
